    FAQs

How do I turn the service on?

Before you close on your new home, our Concierge team will call you to review our service and set up an appointment to activate service. Prefer to turn on service yourself? No problem, we also offer self-installation. High-speed Internet is available at time of move-in!

Is there any other special equipment I need to buy?

Your Dream Finders Home comes with your Wi-Fi and modem already installed. If you decide you would like to extend your Wi-Fi range, we offer additional Plume Pods starting at $15/ month.

    What does symmetrical service mean?

Symmetrical bandwidth means you get equal upload and download speeds. Most people tend to use more download bandwidth than upload bandwidth. But if you often share large files, upload videos or have a lot of content existing in the cloud, you might want to pay more attention to upload speeds.

Does DreamFiber provide bundles for cable and phone? How do I watch TV?

Although DreamFiber Homes does not provide TV services, our Concierge team will assist you with cutting the cable cord. We have partnered with MyBundle which will help you decide which streaming platform is the best for your individual needs.

Can I hardwire my computers and TV so they don’t have to connect through Wi-Fi?

Absolutely! There is an ethernet port on the back of your Plume pod.

How do I make sure my Wi-Fi is secure?

First and foremost, make sure your password is protected so only those given permission may access your Wi-Fi. All DreamFiber Wi-Fi routers are equipped with password protection. We recommend you use a password that meets these standards by visiting this link. https://spycloud.com/new-nist-guidelines/

What is Gigabit Internet? How are Internet speeds measured?

Gigabit Internet service transmits data up to 1 Gigabit per second (Gbps), or 1,000 megabits per second. Internet speed is measured in three different ways: download speed, upload speed and latency.

Download is measured in Mega bits per second (Mbps). It’s the rate used to measure how fast data is downloaded to your device. Simply put, the higher the better.

Upload is also measured in Mbps. It’s the rate used to measure how fast you can upload a file to the internet from your device. This number is typically lower but higher numbers are good too. If you have a high-speed connection like fiber to your house or business, it can be as fast as the download speed.

Latency is how quickly data is moved across a network from point a to b. The lower the number, the better.

What’s the difference between a Gigabit and a Megabit?

First, it’s important to know the difference between gigabits and gigabytes (or in more rudimentary terms, bit and byte). A bit measures data transfer rates over a network. For example, a gigabit connection transmits data at one billion bits per second. This is incredibly fast bandwidth that translates to much less lag time when streaming videos, video gaming or using immersive media such as VR requiring much higher data capacity than most.

A byte measures the amount of storage available on computing devices such as tablets, smartphones, laptops, gaming consoles, cloud storage or other hardware devices. A gigabyte is roughly one billion bytes. In terms of memory space, one gigabyte of space would hold approximately 312 MP3 songs, or 535 ebooks (based on the average 1.87 MB Kindle ebook file size).

The Internet delivers bytes of data over the network, but it delivers them as single bits at a time. Hence, this is why Internet speed is measured in bits—it’s more accurate to measure internet speed through the number of bits per second that a connection transmits. For further reference, 1 byte is made up of 8 bits.

Giga is a unit prefix (just like mega is) used in computing and telecommunications to denote a quantity. Quite simply, a gigabit connection exponentially delivers many more bits per second than a megabit connection does (1 gigabit=1000 megabits), just like a gigabyte contains exponentially many more bytes of storage space than a megabyte does (1 gigabyte=1000 megabytes).

What is Fiber to the Door?

Fiber to the Door (FTTD) is the installation and use of optical fiber that provides high-speed Internet access from a central point directly to individual buildings, such as your Dream Finders Home. FTTD offers speeds up to 100 times as fast as cable or DSL connections. FTTD is sometimes referred to as Fiber to the Home or Fiber to the Premises,
